OKIOK is Melkeveien and Erlend Mokkelbost. Both prominent Norwegian composers, producers and beat makers in their own right, through OKIOK they explore their shared passion for bouncy and colorful dance music. The duo are brimming with an energetic musical curiosity, bending and breaking the limitations of genre, searching for rarer chimaeras to tame, all the time allowing themselves the freedom to go where they must. Sonically and musically, their compositions are unpredictable, yet never uncomfortable, experimental without being alienating, familiar in their strangeness, yet driven, punchy, and clearly focused. Their respective differences embellish their output with details that would be unlikely to appear elsewhere. At this point, they have been working together for a few years, and that time has been productive, so audiences will not go wanting. A remix of acclaimed Norwegian mega group Jaga Jazzist will be released soon on Brainfeeder, as well as new singles this spring and summer and an album slated for a fall release. With their debut single, "Keegasus", we are offered a prime slice of inspired beatmongery, meandering chord patterns, unexpected key shifts, fat analog arpeggiated bass, solid half-swung disco beats, crunchy percussion, and tricks and tropes made new - from stringy chord stabs to fluid and slightly destabilized lead lines, with occasional flurries from a swirling miasma of audio spirits and digital songbirds.
