Biography

Formed in Philadelphia, this group started in 1994 and loving the sound of Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, and Duane Eddy. Describing themselves as the Replacements of rockabilly, Gas Money performed in various bars and showrooms in Philadelphia. In 1994, after their debut show opening for Dave Alvin, they released their first single, "Gatlin Gun Blues." This was followed in 1996 by a single that was released on Estrus and featured a Carl Perkins cover. The band has had its shares of lineup changes, including five or six bass players. In 2001, bass player Chris Reloader drowned in a canoe accident. In the summer of 2001, the group recorded their first full-length effort, dedicating "El Camino Blues" in Reloader's memory. In 2002, Hopeless Love Affair was released on GM Records. The band has played with the Derailers, Big Sandy, and Drivin' N' Cryin', among others. ~ Jason MacNeil, Rovi
