Biography

With a decorated 20-year career, Waithaka is an esteemed award-winning music producer (2019 Café Ngoma Producer of the Year), artist, composer, and label owner who has diligently cemented his place in Kenya’s music legacy and the African diaspora. The prolific US-based Kenyan musician went from a novice learning the piano in the early 2000s to becoming a highly accomplished music producer. Since the start of his career, Waithaka has remained focused on creating timeless music that resonates with diverse audiences. Through his Waithaka Ent label, his catalog boasts an eclectic music palate, from his inaugural all-female debut album Odes by Queens, to the collaborative Blk2541, his joint EP Moshi with Zimbabwe's MJ Wemoto and his latest R&B/Soul album Soul'd Duets. Waithaka Ent’s imprint also includes executive-producing 3 of Kwame Rĩgĩi’s EPs & Ayrosh’s debut Murasta EP, and co-producing 5 out of 9 songs on Wangechi’s Don't Consume If seal is Broken EP. Besides collaborating with other notable Kenyan artists like Mutoriah and SERRO, Waithaka's work extends globally including longtime collaborator & Grammy-nominated engineer Giggz, renowned Congolese-French musician Kaysha and BET’s 106 & Park All-Star '09 winner Chris Deshield. Although a diverse artist, Waithaka's music is rooted in soul and R&B, having grown up in the 80s. His sound is his personality and he prefers to let the music speak for him. His mantra: "Music is Life & Life is Music."
