Biography

The Bennu Byrd is an African American Hip Hop artist, entrepreneur and philanthropist from Washington DC. She was born on July 16, 1988 the same day Washington DC was founded. At the age of 10, she began studying the art of hip-hop emceeing as well as poetry writing. Throughout high school leading up to college Byrd continued to write and battle rap wherever she found opportunities. Deciding to follow her dream of becoming a professional emcee, she moved to Atlanta, GA for her collegiate studies. While there she had the opportunity of working in the studio with many notable music industry producers & songwriters and continued to develop her craft. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Clark Atlanta University in 2010. After graduating college, Byrd embarked on a professional career in youth development, serving young people in afterschool programs in Washington D.C. She seized the opportunity to use her music and songwriting skills to educate and empower the next generation. Currently fully immersed in creating a new sound & movement in hip-hop which she calls “Millennial Soul Music”, Byrd not only wants to top charts but also seeks to empower, uplift and mobilize the next generation of leaders in youth worldwide.
