Biography

b. 30 August 1924, Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, Canada. A cousin of famous Canadian country music singer Hank Snow, Smith became known in the late 50s when, with his band, the Melody Four, he recorded for RCA-Victor Records. The other three members of the band at this time were Roddy Dorman (fiddle), Wendell Simm (bass), and Don Millard (guitar). Included in Smith’s repertoire were ‘Atlantic Lullaby’, ‘Rock And Roll Lullaby’, ‘Baggy Pants’, ‘Let’s Make Hay’, ‘Little Henry’, ‘The Lord Gave Me To You’ and ‘The Broken Ring’. In 2002 Smith was inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame.
