Biography

Jeff Slate is an award winning singer-songwriter from New York City. He co-founded the Mindless Thinkers in the 1980s and worked with Pete Townshend in the 90s, before founding the band The Badge , which became darlings of the UK/European “mod” scene in the 2000’s. 
 In 2010 Slate released the single Dreamtime, featuring Earl Slick and Carlos Alomar, as well as other Bowie alums. Birds of Paradox (Deluxe Version), his first solo album, was released in 2012. It was followed in November 2013 by Imposters & Attractions and Secret Poetry (Deluxe Edition). 
 During the 2020 lockdown Slate performed over 40 streaming concerts and released the live album Lockdown Live. He also released the single Heartbreak, featuring Slick and Duff McKagan, and a cover of the Traveling Wilburys’ Handle with Care for the official celebration of Tom Petty’s 70th birthday. 
 Slate's music has appeared in advertising, films and on television, including the hit show Gossip Girl. 
 Slate is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker and elsewhere, and has appeared on television and radio, including on SiriusXM, where he is a guest host. He is the co-author of the book The Authorized Roy Orbison and has written liner notes for albums by Orbison, the Small Faces, Stax Records, for The Beatles’ 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Bob Dylan’s More Blood, More Tracks and The Rolling Stones’ Tattoo You.
