Biography

Psychedelic Folk Pop band Maia met in a broken down lift, during their first week at Uni in Huddersfield, way back in 2008. Tom Clegg (Lead Vocal, Guitar and Ukulele), Joe Haig (Trumpet, Keyboards and BVs), Simon Robinson (Banjo, Mandolin and BVs) and Will Fletcher (Drums and Percussion) formed a quaint selection of esoteric songs and headed straight to the stages of Yorkshire. The then experimental quartet found themselves immediately recording their first eponymous album, Maia, unknown to the band themselves, under the wise guidance of Asian Dub Legend and former Black Star Liner frontman, Choque Hosein.
Having formed a loyal fan base of folk fans, in 2012 they continued their outward journey into space, with 3-part-harmony bonanza, Pepper Stars. Drawing influence from the likes of Love, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and David Bowie, the album acted as a gateway drug to a bigger, electric sound, more suitable for the mainstage festival slots they were now garnering.
After releasing the Finite World EP in 2014, the foursome, now based in Leeds, spent the next 2 years harnessing the power of new pedals (predominantly of the distortion and delay persuasions!) to bring Wild Waters back to planet Earth in 2017. This has led to exciting developments for the Maianaughts, including playing on BBC Radio 4's flagship culture show 'Loose Ends', and many festival main stages.
With more singles to be released in 2018, the band are already working on new material - TBA.
