Growing up loving the sounds of classic rock's most influential bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Doors, it's strange to see the musical direction taken by hip-hop artist, Michael Heathen. With age, came additional influences more appreciated by the hip-hop community. Rage Against the Machine, Tupac, and Tech N9ne seemed to usher in a new dimension to Heathen's musical mind frame. A process of relentless learning and change through the first ten years of creation, Heathen is still evolving. Having paid his dues, the decade of passion, perspiration, and perseverance are starting to unveil the fruit of that labor. Whether his vehicle is G.L.O.A.T. ENT, which he co-founded in 2010, The Boxer's Brain (a band featuring members of Dallas fan favorite Loyal Sally, G.L.O.A.T. ENT, and The Dallas Mavericks Drum line), or on a solo Heathen set, prepare to be entertained. From the main stages of The Deep Ellum Arts Festival three years running (2015-17), headlining sold-out events for DFW NORML, joining CES CRU of Strange Music on tour, or opening for hip-hop legends like Tech N9ne, KRS-1, Bun B, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Devin the Dude, or Cam'ron... the resume just keeps growing. With a few obligatory mix tapes to his name and two full length albums to his credit, Michael Heathen's music can be heard from Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, or YouTube to the CD player in your mom's car. I bet the case is signed, too. Seriously.
