Trumpeter, vocalist and songwriter Mahealane (her given middle name) means by "light of the full silvery moon" or "heavenly light". She has called "home" numerous places including Hawaii, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio and currently California. Her debut EP Magical Complicated has continued to live on with new live arrangements performed regularly around LA. Based in Los Angeles Mahealane co-leads Low Poly Cactus, a band started by her and partner PRNDL. They both studied Jazz, more appropriately known as Black American Music in school and bring that as well as western classical, Bossa Nova and Salsa influences to the table when composing and creating arrangements. Mahealane (ruthtrumpets in this world) is also a freelance trumpeter for groups including the first all female Mariachi from NYC, Flor de Toloache and has recorded for several artists, which can be heard on this playlist Ruthtrumpets. Other highlights include her quartet playing at SXSW and playing trumpet for Harry Styles headlining Coachella sets.
