Biography

RAS P. Amsterdam, started his musical career in the late 70's. A Hammond organ specialist & skilled writer & arranger, Ras P was inspired by the likes of Winston Wright, Ansel Collins, Harold Butler, Pablov Black, Augustus Pablo & above all the Keyboard King, Jackie Mittoo & throughout the 80's & 90's played with many well known reggae bands from the Amsterdam area. In 1997 with De Ruige, Ras P decided to form, "The High Notes"- a band doing strictly authentic ska, rocksteady & early reggae. The band became immensely popular. Pure musical craftmaship made them Europe's number 1 in its genre, with storming performances at live shows, & backing legendary foundation Jamaican artists such as, Ernest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez, Charles 'Organaire' Cameron, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe, The Heptones, Pat Kelly, Winston Francis, Dennis Alcapone, Winston Ready, U-Brown & Bitty McClean - who all appreciated the sound & feel of the The High Notes. They went on to play countless gigs internationally over 20 years between 1997 & 2017. In 2003, they set up a studio located in the heart of Amsterdam called The Gully Bank. Between 2003 & 2013, they recorded with a lot of the above artists & built a large catalogue of classic reggae sounds & rhythms. Since 2013, having moved operations to Earth Works Studio, Amsterdam & set up the 'Higher Note Records' label, Ras P is continuing to Produce vintage roots, ska, rocksteady, nyahbinghi & dub with a variety of labels, bands & artists.
