Biography

Born and raised in London, hailing from an English and Jamaican background, Caribbean culture has always been deeply rooted within Culan, growing up around musicians and selectors, playing instruments was a natural part of Culan’s childhood, he started collecting Hip-Hop & Dancehall cassettes after watching his uncles who had already built a fierce reputation in the prolific UK sound system scene. He was given the name 'cool hand’ because of his unique music playing style, pronounced ‘cooolan’ the childhood nickname stuck Culan has previously produced & remixed songs for reggae legends such as Beenie Man, Beres Hammond and more, working on available acapellas for compilation releases. As his artistry developed, he released his debut single ‘Easy to Love You’ and has since been championed by the likes of Ricky, Melvin & Charlie (BBC Radio1) Todla T, David Rodigan (Radio 1) Ras Kwame (Capital Xtra) Seani B, Twin B (1Xtra) He has also collaborated with the likes of Konshens, Pato Ranking, Wretch 32, Wiley, Masicka, Juls, Nadia Rose as both an artist and producer. Culan first gained attention after remixing Ed Sheeran's “Shape of you” with his raw and uplifting dancehall style which went viral on Facebook amassing 7 million views in under 6 weeks. Putting his own take on popular songs has become one of his signatures. Culan is now embarking on his first official independent project, the first shot fired is the highly anticipated 'Waistline Check’ releasing November 3rd
