"Your music and art comes from your very core and that's why it moves me every time you perform," Shernaz Patel, award winning actor and Artistic Director for the musical 'Sing India Sing' (Fountainhead/Oranjuice), said to Kamakshi Rai, as the show closed its first season. A singer-songwriter born in Mumbai, Rai headlined Sing India Sing and was coached in drama by Patel, who called her a "true musical theatre actress - who can sing, dance, and most importantly, act." Kamakshi’s first original single, Thodi Si Dua, was independently produced and released in 2021 by Merchant Records. The single featured on several playlists, including Women of Indie India & Fresh Finds India on Spotify, Indian Independent Hits on Apple Music, and hit the charts too: It was #1 on Indiependent India - Hindi Romance, #1 on Fresh Voices, #5 on Indiependent India - Desi Pop (JioSaavn) and #3 on Breaking Indian Independent (Apple Music). Performing comes as instinctively to Rai as songwriting; she was a runner-up on India's first English music talent hunt, 'The Stage.' She has also headlined two musical theatre productions, including Wizcraft’s Bollywood themed, Broadway styled musical, 'Balle Balle.' She made her Bollywood singing debut with Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, lending her voice to two melodious, chart-topping tracks - 'Tere Liye' and 'Dreamtime.' Kamakshi also has a B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science & a Post-Graduate Degree in Business Management.
