Biography

Percussionist and composer Craig Farr was born in Hertfordshire, England and lives in Bergen, Norway. He received a bachelor’s degree in percussion and composition from the Grieg Academy – University of Bergen and was a freelance musician for some years before being employed by the Music Department of the Norwegian Armed Forces. He has been on the staff of the Norwegian Naval Forces Band in Bergen since 2004 and is often featured as both soloist and bandleader. He is often called upon to perform with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and BIT20, and also plays with pop bands such as Kings of Convenience, Scotoma, Ophelia Hope, and Kommode. Together with saxophonist René Wiik, Farr has commissioned, premiered, and recorded Ketil Hvoslef’s work Cantus Lutra Lutra for saxophone, percussion, and winds, along with the Norwegian Naval Forces Band, on the LAWO Classics label. Farr has also premiered works by composers Ørjan Matre, Jan Erik Mikalsen, Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi and Webjørn Sæther, among others, and his compositions have been performed by ensembles including the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, BIT20, Vonnegut Collective, Ensemble Avgarde, and Manger Musikklag.
