Described as "earth jazz alchemists" by Vortex Magazine, the band has evolved through adventurous jazz fusion to low-fi jams to a full fledged funk party, all while prioritizing genuine messages of spirituality, human betterment and a no shits given playfulness. JSP is a true DIY project with 2 self produced EPs and a slew of grassroots touring efforts along the West Coast. Recorded in a mix of bed rooms and iconic Portland studios (Jackpot, Maproom, and Super Secret Studios) their EPs feature Jay Si Proof's iconic retro and utterly human aesthetic, showcasing unique hooks, melodic horns, and improvisational solos. In their upcoming self produced 12 track album “Care About It,” JSP presents more vocal forward music featuring Jeff Chilton's warm motown inspired approach as well as drummer Lucas James' unique and powerful tenor. The album's compositions are inspired by grandiose retro soundscapes and instrumentation packaged into neat indie song forms interspersed with the evocative moments of jazz interaction and improvisation they are known for. Jay Si Proof is led by Jeff Chilton (trombone and vocals) and joined by Lucas James (drums, vocals and production) JD Erickson (sax and flute), and Corey Heppner (guitar).
