Biography

Mezzo Ensemble is an Israeli ensemble dedicated to historically informed performance on period instruments. Founded in 2015 by artistic director and recorder player Doret Florentin, the ensemble’s versatile character allows it to perform a wide variety of programs encompassing diverse and fascinating repertoire. All Mezzo Ensemble musicians are specialists in Early Music performance on historical instruments, and are alumni of prominent Early Music institutions overseas. Yet it is the musicians’ adventurous spirit and artistic curiosity that push the ensemble to continuously seek new musical challenges. Mezzo Ensemble has many exciting programs from a wide range of musical worlds. Each program is based on a specific theme, which is then examined from different cultural perspectives. The various programs invite the audience to experience a variety of musical styles from our unique artistic point of view. Thus, the ensemble brings its members' diverse musical abilities into focus and offers listeners a rich and unique musical landscape. In addition to Early Music, Mezzo Ensemble integrates traditional music from Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and Spain into its programs. The ensemble also performs music by a wide range of contemporary composers from Israel and abroad featuring music composed especially for the ensemble.
