Biography

Christopher Herrick, an eminent British concert organist, began his musical journey as a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral. At the age of 12, a stint turning pages for the cathedral organist ignited his passion for the organ. At Exeter College, Oxford (1961-64) he held the Parry/Wood Organ Scholarship. Christopher took the role of Director of Music of the Chapel Choir and conducted the Exonian Singers and Orchestra. He then secured a Boult scholarship at the Royal College of Music, broadening his musical horizons to include the harpsichord as well as studying conducting with Sir Adrian Boult. Christopher served in liturgical roles at St Paul's Cathedral (1967-74), and Westminster Abbey (1974-84). His time at the Abbey was marked by royal and state occasions, over 200 solo recitals, and the launch of ‘Organ Fireworks’ with Hyperion Records, which heralded his solo career. This new chapter saw Christopher touring the globe giving concerts and recording extensively, notably the Fireworks and Dreams series as well as the complete organ works of Bach and Buxtehude. As a counterpoint to his organ work, he has directed two London choirs over fifty years. Now in his 80s, Christopher’s organ recordings are on various platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Hyperion Records and YouTube, allowing organ music enthusiasts globally to delve into his melodious world. He continues to schedule organ concerts, with his upcoming engagements listed on his Facebook page.
