Violist Coen and cellist Gereon Theis met by chance at the Fusion Festival, with no idea of what would happen next. Coen is active as a session musician, and tours with his metal band “Circus of Fools”. Gereon took up the cello as a child and has been devoted to the instrument ever since, playing in various classical ensembles and orchestras. At that first meeting, Gereon and Coen found that they were united in their unconditional desire to do something different, something new. The idea for TwoPlusFour was born: they decided to found a band that would use the strengths of classical instruments in the context of a rock band, and develop their own unique sound. Coen remembered drummer Lucas, whom he had played with in his band. To complete the rhythm section, they needed a second cello. Gereon thought of his fellow student and friend Karl. Coen had heard of another violinist who had already participated in some projects mixing classical with pop: Jonathan, who is active as an actor as well as a musician. He introduced his new bandmates to pianist Christian, a fellow student of his who had been involved in various musical productions, and is, of course, an outstanding pianist. TwoPlusFour’s lineup was complete. At the band’s first rehearsal, which took place in the summer of 2018 in Berlin, there was an immediate spark. The band’s fantastic arrangements, as well as their sheer enthusiasm, convinced the record company to get involved.
