Born as Samuel Gomez to Latin-American parents in Madera, California in 2001, martyr is making a name for himself balancing roles as an artist, DJ, mixing/mastering/recording engineer, and producer in the Pacific Northwest. Early in life, the Chula Vista native wanted to make rock adjacent music, inspired by the shredding guitars/vocals of Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance while simultaneously having grown up with the drums of Timbaland and Pharrell Williams. Learning from chord diagrams and tablature, he started to pick up guitar, keyboard, and bass at the age of 12. He made progress in the years following practicing with the worship band at church and learning signal flow in A/V. By the time he was 16, his father had gifted him with an audio interface, a DAW, and a microphone: the tools with which he would start his career. During April of 2020, the San Diego artist self-released a 7-track mixtape conveying his own emotional turmoil ironically titled no hard feelings. Prior to his move to Washington, the project was remastered in late 2022 under bbboris’s M4BMU$IK label as its debut record.
