Renaissance Fantasias for Solo Lute

Biography

In 1590 Gregorio took a position in the court in Wolfenbuttel as a lutenist. The court thought well of Huet the `luytslager' because of his abilities and amicability. In 1597 he had composed his "The First Book of Songs or Ayres" and with other musicians traveled to the court in Kassel where they performed for Moritz. Huet's playing was considered perfect particularly for motets and madrigals. When he was no longer needed at the court, Michael Praetorious took Huet into his orchestra. Huet's lute compositions included intelligent fantasias, pavans and galliards with a great deal of musical decoration. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
