Hailing from Lisbon, Capitão Fausto are one of the defining bands of their generation, celebrated for their originality and creativity within Portugal's vibrant music scene. The band was formed in 2009 by Tomás Wallenstein, Domingos Coimbra, Manuel Palha, Salvador Seabra, and Francisco Ferreira. Their latest album Subida Infinita is out now by Cuca Monga. This fifth album is a testament to the intense years they've lived through. It’s the last album featuring Francisco Ferreira, who left in early 2024—a departure poignantly woven into the album’s ten tracks. Among these, you’ll find a collaboration with Tim Bernardes on Cantiga Infinita. The album was co-produced by Capitão Fausto and Diogo Rodrigues in Lisbon, mixed by Mads Oustrup, and mastered by Matt Colton and Joel Krozer. Over a decade since their debut, the band’s journey of constant reinvention continues. The raw, impulsive energy of Gazela has evolved into a more refined and melodic sound. Capitão Fausto’s discography spans five albums. Gazela came out in 2011, followed by the experimental Pesar o Sol in 2014. Capitão Fausto Têm os Dias Contados (2016) was met with enthusiasm by fans and critics, a success echoed by A Invenção do Dia Claro in 2019, which features Amor, a Nossa Vida and Boa Memória , recorded in São Paulo. Capitão Fausto co-founded the record label and artistic collective Cuca Monga, a launchpad for significant new artists in the independent Portuguese music scene.
