Biography

Grenon was in service to the Duke of Burgundy as a member of the chapel in 1385. By 1399 he was a clerk at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and in 1403 moved to the Cathedral of Laon as a choirboy master. By 1412 he was in service to the Duke of Burgundy once again where he became the director of the choirboys and was resposible for feeding, clothing and housing them. His compositions included secular songs, masses and motets, the three genres of polyphony then being practiced. The range of his technical methods included placing the melody in the highest voice accompanied by two lower instruments, employing the use of isorhythmic devices, and occasionally using rhythmic dimunution. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
