Biography

Southern California hip-hip duo The Gooneez was formed in 2012 and consists of cousins, Dre & Frank. Their debut album ‘Astoria’ was released in 2013 with a feature from a then young new MC outta Pittsburgh, Mac Miller. The song ‘Weed N Rhymin’ with Miller lead to a slot on XXL’s The Break section known for introducing rising upcoming artist. In 2014, while performing on the Hollywood Sunset Strip club circuit, they had a chance encounter backstage at one of those shows with a then unsigned pre GKMC Kendrick Lamar who ended up being featured on their next lead single ‘Too Strong’ for their follow up album ‘Anonymous’. The album solidified the cousins place in the Golden State’s stabled talent to watch from the west coast.
In 2017 both members decided to pursue solo projects and other ventures but ultimately the chemistry on songwriting is what brought them back together again, and The Gooneez picked up where they left off - making music people can feel and that’s always real.
On their first new release in 2021 ‘Yo Yo’, they continued to bring their unique blend of high energy, yet chill lyrical melodic approach over eerie futuristic production that match the fluent verses. Feeling rejuvenated, The Gooneez look forward to retaining their cult indie status as two musicians who float in their own lane when it comes to their sound.
