Capella Grey is a Bronx-based R&B singer, songwriter, and producer best known for his breakout 2021 hit "Gyalis." He is the founder of the Capitol-affiliated record company Allepac the Family and, prior to his own solo success, produced and wrote music for artists like King Combs and Rèign. On his first two mixtapes, Grey combined melodic R&B with the rapid flow of rap and elements of modern dancehall. In 2022, he collaborated with fellow multitasking singer/producer Nija on the single "Confujawn." Born Curtis Jackson II in New Rochelle, New York, Grey began singing and playing multiple instruments at a young age. After growing up partly in Danville, Connecticut, his family moved to the Bronx where he became heavily active in writing, playing, and producing music. Adept at a number of styles, Grey found some early success behind the scenes writing the 2018 track "Love You Better" for King Combs and Chris Brown. He also organized and produced the 4 Square Peace Project which featured artists based in his Mount Vernon neighborhood. After signing and producing the R&B group Rèign on his Allepac the Family imprint, Grey released his first two mixtapes in quick succession, Yeah Nah I'm Out and The QuaranTape Vibe 1. He was vaulted to mainstream success when his 2021 track "Gyalis," became a hit in the U.S. as well as on Canadian and U.K. charts. Major-label Capitol signed Grey's Allepac label for a joint venture and issued a remix of "Gyalis" featuring Popcaan and Chris Brown. After the solo single "Talk Nice," Grey returned in 2022 with the Nija collaboration "Confujawn." ~ Timothy Monger
