Returning with their new summer single, 'Sunbeams', on May 21st; Pondarosa are a band in transition, on a mission. Evolving once again from their roots to build on the new synth-heavy sound they debuted last year, the four-piece return with a summer anthem that is comfortably their poppiest, catchiest number to date. Once again teaming up with trusted friend and producer Matt Heap of Suff Studio, the band have laid down a statement of intent with their first release of 2021. Finding a sweet spot between the sunshine-psych of Tame Impala and the synth-forward indie pop of Blossoms (plus nods to New Order, Parcels, The Beach Boys and A Tribe Called Quest) ‘Sunbeams’ bursts forth with a glistening summer sheen that harks back to the past whilst yearning for the future. It might be rooted in inspirations of the past, but ‘Sunbeams’ is infused with a feeling that’s very much happening right now. The wait continues for their eagerly anticipated gig supporting The Cheap Thrills at Liverpool’s prestigious Arts Club, but the band have spent the time away from live music honing their craft in the studio and preparing a fresh setlist which will make their return to the stage unmissable. Pondarosa are starting to establish a sound that’s been long in the making, but is only just beginning.
