Dirt Hand is the solo project of Arun Roberts. Combining traditional balladry with process experimentation to create a sound like Nina Simone bludgeoning Leonard Cohen over the head with a velour lampshade, they first appeared in 2015 with the release of the Dirt Hand EP. The 5 tracks therein were well received locally, appearing in a handful of independent films and seeing Dirt Hand play alongside a host of national heroes. 2 years later Dirt Hand was back in the studio with a ferocious, new, improv-based band process that has been described variously as “an inspired and fully textured tentative tightrope for Roberts’ deep growling storytelling” and “one of those golden bullets of ratification for the extraordinary”.
