As lead singer and principal songwriter of The Dream Academy Nick enjoyed worldwide success in the mid-80s with songs including The Love Parade and Life in a Northern Town. The latter song also became a worldwide dance hit in 1997 for Dario G as Sunchyme and was again US Top 40 and Grammy nominated in 2003 for Sugarland and Little Big Town. The band’s music was also extensively featured in the John Hughes films Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Trains, Planes and Automobiles. His co-composition credits include his work with David Gilmour on Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, as well as on Brian Wilson’s eponymous first solo album. His engagement with, and knowledge of a wide range of contemporary music has led to Nick being asked to work as a music consultant for both Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers and Richard Curtis’s About Time, for which he also composed the music. In 1999 as Trashmonk, Nick released the critically acclaimed Mona Lisa Overdrive for Alan McGee‘s Creation Records, which led to being asked to compose the score for The Invisible Circus by director Adam Brooks. The soundtrack album for the acclaimed Universal film about Leonard Cohen, Marianne & Leonard: Words Of Love (2019), is available too. Nick has recently completed the score for the new Nick Broomfield film Last Man Standing: Suge Knight and the Murders of Biggie & Tupac. The film is in cinemas from 2 July 2021 with the soundtrack album available to stream and download: https://slinky.to/LastManStanding
