Beatdown: Round 1

Biography

Reg Young has always been about the music. From spinning vinyl as a toddler, to teaching himself drums at the age of 11, to making his first beats at the age of 16, it clear that music is his first true love.
With his major influences being the greatest to do it (including Quincy Jones, Prince, Dr. Dre, DJ Premier & Pete Rock), he started to make a name for himself with instrumental albums. Beatdown (2012), his first instrumental tape, was a hodgepodge of those influences, using Muhammad Ali as a muse. Beatdown II followed in 2014, using Mike Tyson as the inspiration. He’s also begun to create a name as a go-to producer for local artists, most notably premier lyricist D2G, who first collaborated with Young on the 2015 opus, “Short Summers Long Winters.” 2018’s “Up Jumps The Boogie” is the first offering from the upcoming collaborative project, SXSE (South by SouthEast), due out in 2019.
2018’s Beatdown III is the final installment in the instrumental series, which serves as a capstone of everything he’s learned, paving the way for the future as he continues to collaborate with artists all over the world to create songs that will undoubtedly cement themselves into the hearts of listeners everywhere.
