A native of Washington DC, Bassist, Writer, Artist, Producer, Entrepreneur, Dwayne “Smitty” Smith. plays 4 and 5 string electric bass, piccolo bass, as well as synth bass. Smitty ventured west to Hollywood in 1986 after 3 tours with US Air Force's Tops in Blue show. Bringing a fresh DC groove to the scene, he quickly became one of LA’s in-demand bassists, working with some of the Industries top artists such as: Anita Baker, Teena Marie, Natalie Cole, Tom Jones, Peabo Bryson, Jeffrey Osborne, George Howard, Gerald Albright, Tom Scott, Boney James, as well as 7 years with the Isley Brothers to name a few. Recording credits include Ledisi, Maysa, Will Downing, Lalah Hathaway, Kirk Whalum, Chante Moore, Everett Harp, Brian Simpson, Doc Powell, Boney James, and many more. Smitty’s songwriting credits include: Boney James, Brian Simpson, Rhythm Logic, Birds of A Feather, Michael White, Ron Brown, East Bay Soul, and 2 Solo Projects to his credit as well. His music has been described as smooth, thoughtful, inspiring, and funky! Smitty’s bass talents also expanded to TV sitcoms such as: South Central, Thea Thea, Matt Waters, Sister Sister, and Bob Hearts Abishola…Film credits include Ali (Will Smith), Best Man Holiday (Tyler Perry). He is currently working with Smooth Jazz great, Boney James, and is a resident bassist for the Dave Koz Jazz Cruise, as well as performing and recording with various Smooth Jazz, RB, Soul and Gospel artists along with an occasional TV sitcom recording.
