Founder and director of the Boise Creative and Improvised Music Festival, Krispen Hartung has been actively involved in the Northwest music and arts scene for over 30 years. His contributions include creating new ways for musicians to communicate and collaborate with each other, such as Boise's first musicians web registry (1998), the Boise Musicians internet discussion group, recurring showcase performances for local experimental musicians, and the Boise Experimental Music Festival/Boise and Experimental Music Festival. He has also sponsored and performed at many art or creative art orientated events and venues, such as TreeFort (Boise), the Y2K International Live Looping Festival (Santa Cruz/SFO), ElectroAcoustic Festival (New York), Jazz Saturdays (led by former director of the College of Southern Idaho Jazz department), and various art exhibitions and events. His efforts have revolved primarily around raising awareness and appreciation of avant-garde and creative music in Boise, Idaho, but his discography crosses and fuses multiple genres, including jazz, free jazz, experimental music, free improvisation, progressive metal, world, ambient, and jazz fusion.
