The Meercats

The Meercats: The Western Nepalese B-S...

Biography

The Meercats are one of those bands who created an entire generation of music. Although they aren’t the most notable, they are definitely the musical pioneers of the 80s.
Originally a trio, The Meercats quickly grew to the top of the charts in 1982, a year after their first release “Little, Jack (Don’t Turn Around).” Kicking out songs like “All the Beans,” “I’m a Tomato,” and Still in Night, they took the world by surprise. Despite overwhelming commercial success, the band still kept their experimental nature, as they improvised every single song. It is this very reason why The Meercats are often regarded as some of the most proficient musical artists of the mid 80s.
Many of their songs touch on current events such as the rise of technology, the Cold war, the rise of the corporate sector, and the death of the American dream.
Eventually their 26 song mixtape (originally 30) was released at the end of their career, and the The Meercats were forgotten. Some interweb-savvy natives of Nepal claim that it in 1987, the UN made a decision to erase the memory of The Meercats from the entire world (with the exception of the left side of Nepal), do to their large, successful cult operation. These claims could easily be brushed off, if it weren’t for the newspaper clippings from 1985 and 1986, with headlines such as:
“Tomatoism: The Dangerous The Meercats cult” “Are The Meercats Really in a Cult” “Is Tomatoism a Hoax?” and various other newspaper clippings.
