The Grace to Leave

Elysian Fields, Concerto For Cello And...

Biography

Ben Noyes, born 1974, is a cellist, collaborator, composer and educator living currently in Falmouth, ME. Music came shortly before English as his first language. Growing up in a family of musicians, Ben could play before he could talk;) As you will hear, Elysian Fields departs from the more traditional path he initially embarked upon as a music student studying everything from Bach to John Cage, Shostakovich to Charles Ives. He noticed at a very young age a preference for the more complex range of colors the cello represents. His drive to expand that range of colors has moved him to explore jazz, hip hop, sound effects, rock, collaborations in both artistic, commercial and multi media presentations and projects. In this solo project, Elysian Fields, Concerto for Cello and Electronics in 528 Hz Major, Noyes explores an uncharted realm that melds spiraling, solitary strings with a cosmic tidal aurality.
