Biography

Sandra Vu worked as a drummer for some of the more celebrated indie rock groups of the late 2000s and early 2010s, playing with Dum Dum Girls and Dirty Beaches and as a studio drummer with the Boredoms and the Raveonettes, among others, before stepping out on her own with solo project SISU in 2010. Handling all vocal, instrumental, and songwriting duties, Vu crafted dark, moody indie rock inspired by the colder tones of '80s synth acts like New Order, shoegaze, and goth-tinged darkwave. The first SISU recordings came in the form of 2010's Sharp Teeth single. It would be several years until the group's next recordings, mostly due to Vu's other commitments, but by 2013 SISU had grown into a fully formed touring band, including backing musicians Ryan Wood, Nat Keefer, Julianna Medeiros, Tito Echevarria, and David South. Vu still crafted all the recorded music herself, releasing the Light Eyes EP in a limited vinyl pressing in April of 2013. In September of the same year, the cathartic yet dreamy debut full-length Blood Tears arrived. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
