Biography

Formed in Montréal, the international slate of early-music specialists known as Masques has been likened to “the best years of Musica Antiqua Köln” (Diapason). They are renowned for their expressiveness, precision, the eloquence of their interpretations and breathtaking spontaneity. The six members of Masques, who hail from Canada, France, Australia, Finland and Belgium, each have impressive independent careers. When they come together, they share an uncommon chemistry which has mesmerized critics and audiences throughout Europe. Since 2010, Masques has performed in Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Spain, Poland and Austria; in Holland at Amsterdam’s Musiekgebouw and Utrecht’s renowned Early Music Festival; in Belgium at Brussels’ Bozar, Antwerp’s AMUZ and Gent’s Bijloke; and in the UK at London’s Wigmore Hall. Masques will be making a rare stop in North America in November 2017, with concerts in Calgary, Kitchener-Waterloo, Montreal and, for the very first time, Toronto. Since its inception, Masques has chosen to explore different repertoires Baroque. Their immersion in the rich and sensuous Austro-German repertoire of 17th century has earned them wide critical acclaim.
