Biography

Born in Santa Fe (Argentina), He began his first cello lessons at the age of eight at the Music School Nº 9901 with Prof. Alberto Canto. In 1991, he continued his cello studies with Prof. Nicholas Finoli in Buenos Aires. In 1997, he begun the studies at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg " (University of Music and Theater Hamburg, Germany) in the cello class of Prof. Wolfgang Mehlhorn. In 1999, he participated in a cello course of the Bach Akademie Stuttgart (Germany), with the cellist Boris Pergamenschikow. He has made concert tours in Germany, Italy and Spain. In April of the 2001, he participated in a cello course with Prof. Siegfried Palm at the Federal Academy of Music in Wolfenbüttel (Hannover, Germany). In November 2001, he won the “Alfred Toepfer Stiftung” (Alfred Toepfer Foundation) award and in June/July 2002, has won the first prize in the “Elise Meyer” cello competition for students of the University of Music and Theater Hamburg and the second prize in the “Second Latin American Cello Competition Carlos Prieto” made in Morelia (Mexico). During 2003/2004 he has been appointed as second assistant at the Opera House in Oldenburg (Germany). Between September 2004-2010 he was first cellist at the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic (Germany). In April 2010 Fernando Gentile was awarded with the prize “Nicolás Finoli” in Buenos Aires. He has recorded for the SonoAr label the six cello suites by J. S. Bach. He plays on a cello by Dante Baldoni, 1924.
