Harlem-based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and poet Yaz Lancaster presents and performs work in a wide range of mediums and collaborative projects. They have a varied discography including performing with Miss Grit (on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," and debut LP Follow the Cyborg), violin and vocals on FEELING BODY by Nyokabi Kariuki, and violin for 2022 Gaudeamus winner BAKUDI SCREAM's FINAL SKIN , and screamo-quartet Massa Nera's Derramar | Querer | Borrar. Yaz has also collaborated and performed with notable artists including Andy Akiho, George Lewis, JACK Quartet, Jacolby Satterwhite, Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti, Ted Hearne, and Wadada Leo Smith. They are currently in post-genre duo laydøwn with guitarist-producer Andrew Noseworthy. Additionally, they have written works for large-scale organizations like GRAMMY-nominated A Far Cry, contemporary opera producer Beth Morrison Projects, chamber orchestras Alarm Will Sound and Contemporaneous, and versatile Opera Philadelphia – through which they created a digital opera starring Lisel and directed by Sean Pecknold. Their debut audiovisual record AmethYst releases in April 2023 with people | places | records. It features genre-defying music from experimental and contemporary classical, to glitchcore, hyperpop and vaporwave.
