Marek Johnson is an embodiment of constellations: present experiences, historical references, reality, future ideas. The songs unfold their gentle magic, finding their way out of melancholy via intertwined paths such as dreampop, indie, sixties folk or trip hop, through a kind of ethereal labyrinth. You can't escape it - that's the magic of this chamber psychedelia. Sometimes you think: Björk is about to sing over these Matmos beats, and then it's David Helm's unmistakable vocals. Let's call it fragile mumblecore full of utopian moments that will leave you floating on clouds even when you're sober, with latently ghostly voices, latently ingratiating melodies and latently intricate straightforwardness - as well as the subliminal dynamics of club tracks. For the new album David Helm had plenty of wind in his sails and was able to rely on the sparkle of his fellow musicians Wanja Slavin, Jan Philipp and Shannon Barnett for orientation. Drawing deeply from himself, but also quoting Shakespeare or conjuring up 80s pop history with the cuddly mumble of Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush in his ear. Inspiration came in waves. Even if the creative process behind "Mumbling On The Floor" actually involved David Helm retreating with Wanja Slavin to his house in the woods instead of going out to sea, there is something apt about the image.
