Singer and actress Liesbeth List (1941-2020) is already a legend in life. In the early sixties she was discovered by the creative singer and theatre-maker Ramses Shaffy. He commits her to his musical cabaret Shaffy Chantant. Their joint debut immediately becomes their big breakthrough, after which the two celebrate successes for more than forty years together. Duets like Pastorale and Aan De Andere Kant Van De Heuvels turn out to be evergreens. From the 1990s, List has collaborated with a younger generation of songwriters, including Frank Boeijen and Han Kooreneef. The song Heb Het Leven Lief, which dates from this period, becomes her anthem. Many theatre tours as a singer are followed by several successful tours as an actress, when Liesbeth List plays the role of Edith Piaf in Piaf de Musical. After a triumphant tour of theatres in the Netherlands and Belgium with her performance ‘Liesbeth 70’, in which she reviews all her successes, La List says goodbye to her audience. Liesbeth List is seen and praised as La Grande Dame of the Dutch Chanson. She has been appointed a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion and a member of the French Legion d'Honneur. For her work she received dozens of gold and platinum records, two Edisons and two Musical Awards, a Golden Harp and the Frans Banninck Cocq Medal from the city of Amsterdam.
