Antonia Carrena writes songs that explore love, heartache, and knowing your worth. Her music is a blend of soulful pop, UK garage and Afrobeats elements. Laced with harmonies inspired by 90s girl groups, her affirming and introspective music displays her powerful and soulful vocals whilst leaving room for softer moments. Raised in Somerset, the singer-songwriter began writing poetry and songs at the age of 10, with her sister often accompanying her on the guitar. She was brought up by her English foster family in Somerset and her British-Nigerian mother and family in London. Time divided between the two exposed Carrena to a wide range of musical artists and genres throughout her upbringing, of which she now regularly draws her creative ideas from. Carrena eventually moved to London, performing at various open mics and music showcases to perfect her craft. These include headline shows at 93 Feet East in Shoreditch and Gigi’s Bar in Hoxton, extended sets at renowned venues Notting Hill Arts Club and Hootananny Brixton, and provided vocals for a BBC television show. Carrena has also received national radio play on Kiss Fresh and BBC1xtra by DJ Target, Jeremiah Asiamah, and was Sian Anderson's BBC Introducing Track of the Week. She has also been featured in the Unsigned Guide's Spotlight blog and her track 'Oya' was selected to feature on an album released in celebration of International Women's Day 2021, in partnership with Universal Production Music and She Said So.
