Born in Ottawa & raised in Montreal, Hamza Mahdi, a Calgary artist, takes musical inspiration from the greats. His musical inspiration ranging from hip hop to classic rock to musical scores. Hamza shares his passion for art and culture. 2023, Jeans On Drops: This year Hamza Mahdi wanted to really showcase his talent from his witty lines to his amazing flows to his incredible visuals and beat selection. Continuously being compared to Kendrick Lamar, Hamza wanted to show that he can stand alone in his sound without being compared to another great. To be influenced is one thing but to try and create something that is different from what people usually listen to is another. With Hamza Mahdi’s new release “Jeans On” he made what he describes as his own version of a mainstream track through talking about serious topics of his past and how far he has come overall as an individual even outside of his music. Getting the chance to open up for Ohgeesy (from Shoreline Mafia) set the tone for Hamza and his team as people described his contagious energy as refreshing and unreal. Seeing that the crowd of people who were present to see a mainstream artist were able to gravitate towards an artist with a completely different sound showed Hamza that there is still hope in true art and that striving for something great and different is not as far away as one would assume.
