Raphael Wressnig is not your ordinary B-3 organ player. He’s actually one of a kind: a young master of the imposing, large instrument who is expansive in his breadth of expertise. He’s fluent in soul, funk, rhythm & blues and he concocts exciting mixed-genre music from his fervid imagination. Influenced by royal predecessors like Jimmy Smith , Booker T. Jones of Booker T. & the M.G.'s and Joe Zawinul, Wressnig has grabbed the attention of an international claque of critics and has been honored with nominations as “Best Organ Player of the Year” at the DownBeat Critics Poll in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 & 2021. In 2014 the B-3 groove master made a trip to New Orleans to record “Soul Gumbo”with Alex Schultz, sax-extraordinaire Craig Handy, funk-drummer Stanton Moore, Walter Wolfman Washington, The Meters’ George Porter Jr., Grammy winner Jon Cleary and Tad Robinson. For the 2016 album “The Soul Connection”, Raphael Wressnig travelled to São Paulo, Brazil, and joined forces with blues guitar boss Igor Prado. They cook up a gumbo stew of soul, old-school R&B and funk featuring vocal legend Wee Willie Walker . In 2017 Wressnig recorded the powerful soul and funk album “Chicken Burrito” with legendary drummer James Gadson (Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, Bill Withers, Paul McCartney, D'Angelo, Quincy Jones, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Eddie Harris, Vulfpeck, Jamie Lidell & Beck among others) and guitarist Alex Schultz in Los Angeles.
