British soul singer/songwriter McLean has been described by producer Fraser T. Smith as a modern-day Marvin Gaye. Born in east London, McLean began singing in church. Inspired by the U.K. garage scene, became a regular fixture on pirate radio station FLAVA FM. In 2007 his self-penned track "Broken" received over 20 million hits across various social networking sites. Online buzz led to a deal with Atlantic Records and collaborations with MJ Cole and Chase & Status under the pseudonym Digga. In 2010 he released his first major-label single, "My Name," which reached number ten in the U.K. charts. He also appeared on the Young Soul Rebels charity single "I Got Soul." In 2023 McLean returns with a new Ep [ HEARTBREAK 101 ] and a new album in the works. The U.K. soul star says about his upcoming project: "To be honest it’s more of an exorcism than an art project. Heartbreak isn’t just “my girlfriend has left me and it’s sad” it can be that, but also not being able to be with the one you love, being in a relationship and still feeling alone, suffering from depression, even being on bad terms with family. I wanted to explore all these things because I’ve felt all these things and they’re heartbreaking." Heartbreak 101 is due for release on 11/08/23 through Blaquesheep records.
