Biography

Styx, comprising James “JY” Young, Tommy Shaw, Chuck Panozzo, Todd Sucherman, Lawrence Gowan, Will Evankovich, and Terry Gowan, has captivated audiences for over five decades with their dynamic performances and signature sound. Performing an average of 100 shows annually, the band continuously strives to improve with each performance. Their extensive repertoire includes chart-topping hits, joyous singalongs, and hard-driving deep cuts. Styx's breakthrough came with Tommy Shaw's debut LP, "Crystal Ball," in 1976. They became the first band to release four consecutive triple-platinum albums: "The Grand Illusion" (1977), "Pieces of Eight" (1978), "Cornerstone" (1979), and "Paradise Theater" (1981). In 1996, they successfully reunited for the "Return to Paradise" tour, documented on CD and DVD in 1997. Their collaboration with Cleveland’s Contemporary Youth Orchestra resulted in "One With Everything" (2006), a blend of orchestral and rock music. The "Regeneration" volumes I & II (2011 & 2012) featured re-recorded classics, showcasing their enduring appeal. In 2017, Styx released "The Mission," an album praised as a "masterpiece," followed by "Crash of the Crown" in 2021, recorded during the pandemic. Drummer Todd Sucherman highlights their mission to bring joy to millions, while Lawrence Gowan credits their success to consistently high-quality shows. With a rich legacy and dedication to live performance, Styx continues to evolve, embodying the spirit of rock and roll.
