The Hutchinsons were a hard-rocking L.A.-based power pop trio led by brothers Jimmy Hutchinson (drums, vocals) and Joe Normal Hutchinson (guitar, vocals), joined by bassist Glenn Hays. They released a self-titled EP on RTG Records in 1996, followed in 1997 by the full length album Plastic Fruit and Popcorn. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi The brothers began as founding members of legendary Sunset Strip glam-rockers The Zeros with their wacky stage names Jimmy "Mr. Insane" and Joe Normal, and left the signed group in 1992 after ten years together to pursue their own sibling driven powerpop / indie rock vision. Praised on both coasts by LA Weekly and NJ/NY/PA's The Aquarian Weekly, The Hutchinsons toured the US in Summer of 1997 and opened dates for Tonic, The Proclaimers and Debbie Gibson. They also played many gigs in the underground pop scene alongside Rolan Bolan, Baby Lemonade, Drill Team, Velouria and Wondermints. In 1998 the trio would self produce a six song EP "SuperLoFiQuadroTrakDemoTape" which they unsuccessfully shopped around for a record deal. ( The final tapes were never mastered or officially released. ) After disbanding in 1999 Joe became HUTCH / JOE NORMAL and remains active as Joe Normal. (and Joe Normal & The Anytown'rs) Jimmy went on to form Gazz respectively. Sometimes comparisons were made to Jellyfish Urge Overkill Badfinger The Smithereens Redd Kross Semisonic Sloan. That's some pretty good company right there. Power Pop to the Max... Full Wattage Pop.
