Biography

Daniela Spielmann: Saxophonist, flutist, composer, and arranger, as well as teacher and researcher, Daniela is an exciting performer as a leader or as part of a group. Daniela’s interpretive strengths add to the creativity of her compositions and arrangements. In 2001, she released her first solo CD - BRAZILIAN BREATH, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy. She was part of the all women house band for the show "Altas Horas" which played on TV Globo from 2000 to 2014. She has released twelve career CDs in groups such as Rabo de Lagartixa, Mulheres em Pixinguinha and the last one in 2018, “Afinidades", consisting of entirely original compositions. In 2019 Daniela was invited to play at the first RIO MONTREUX FESTIVAL. Daniela is frequently invited to give workshops and seminars in Brazil and in other countries. She has developed a national and international career, having performed with several artists of the MPB Instrumental scene, such as: Sivuca, Paulo Moura?, Zé Menezes, Zé da Velha and Silvério Pontes, Anat Cohen, singers such as: Aurea Martins, Moyseis Marques, Zélia Duncan, etc. Daniela was one of the musicians featured in the documentary film about choro music, Brasilerinho: (2005) Daniela completed her Master’s and Ph.D degrees in musicology at the University of Rio DeJaneiro. She is currently professor of music at Cefet-RJ Maracanã and participating in research in the area of musicology.
