Growing up a middle child in a Nigerian household, McFortune Osinachi Ibekwe, also known as Mack OC, has always strived to be heard amongst the crowd. Hailing from the cold suburbs of the Twin Cities, Minnesota, the young visionary has chosen music ranging across all genres to voice his opinion on various topics and bring people together through his creations. On December 12, 2020, Mack OC stamped his position as a leader in the Minnesota music industry with the release of his debut mixtape, “Write Back” with staple songs including “Rollercoaster” and “On The Line”. With the body of work including skits, voicemails, acapella remakes, spoken word, and transitions between all 12 tracks, OC set the standard for succeeding projects coming out of the local scene and was able to deliver an incredible story with a message through all of it. This project was followed by solid singles, features, and collaborative projects that made it hard for listeners to fit the artist's work into one genre. Being raised in African music and influenced by the African musicians around him gave Mack OC the desire to dig deeper into his own culture and create songs such as “Superman” and “More Time”. With those songs rapidly boosting his career and overall traction, OC the Only was able to find comfort in the genre due to the freedom of creativity that the genre allowed. The decision to enter the afrobeat scene ultimately led to the artist's 2023 7-song EP, “Osinachi”.
