KINO is a Canadian electronic music producer and singer-songwriter based in Tokyo, Japan. KINO grew up listening to pop, house, dubstep, drum and bass, and Japanese visual-kei music, all of which influence her unique sound that ranges from dreamy and ethereal to dark and aggressive. She started off making songs as a kid on GarageBand, and since then has continued to teach herself music production. She creates music as a way to connect to her shadow and deeper emotions. Her creative style is intuitive — she allows each song to show her what it wants to be, and doesn’t restrict it to conventional structures. Her songwriting is heavily influenced by spirituality, exploring common themes in the spiritual journey. Her abstract lyrics allow listeners to find their own meaning and create a personal relationship with each song.
