With a solid classical training, and having plunged into the dizzying depths of improvisation with Bernard Lubat, this flutist is one of those soloists who builds a natural link between contemporary music, jazz and various movements in new music. Her curiosity leads her to multidisciplinary projects, such as the show Printemps, and to cross-disciplinary work. In 2014, she founded the Sybille Association, which supports her projects, and she is its artistic director. Clearly identified within the professional milieu in which she evolves Sylvaine Hélary is named as the new artistic director of National Jazz Orchestra (ONJ), starting from January 2025. Her discography to date includes some twenty recordings, some of which are acclaimed by specialist critics. Her latest album Glowing Life, released in November 2020, won her the highest ratings in both Télérama and Choc Jazzmag. As a composer, she writes for commissions (Frédéric Maurin's ONJ, Hörschpiel for the festival Sons d’Hiver) and develops her own universe in her groups: The Edge of Memories, the Glowing Life quartet, her solo project Friselis, La Tête de Lark quintet – as co leader with Sarah Murcia, and also for L'Orchestre Incandescent, her new ensemble of nine musicians. With Antonin Rayon, she co-wrote and interpreted the music for theatre director Sylvain Creuzevault's latest creation, Les Frères Karamazov. She is touring with Dominique A for the 2022-2023 season.
