Biography

A piece of paper, a pencil, a piano. These are what are necessary to capture the words and melodies that make a song. But, like young colts penned up in a corral, songs come into their own only when they are "released" by their performers. First, with the interpretive talents of the vocalists, then with the boundless imagination of the arranger, and finally by the invigorating participation of the instrumentalists and the polishing touch of the sound engineer. Having been taught to play the piano by his mother, Dana discovered early in life the treasures of the great American songwriters. Over the past half century he has created numerous works in various genres including jazz, instrumental, liturgical and contemporary. What greater thrill is there than matching a meaningful, fresh lyric with a memorable, strong melody?
