Biography

Ever since Joseph Malik was a child, music has been his first love, dreaming that one day he would get to make albums and tour the World. Joseph found solace by creating his own musical haven, saving money from his paper round to buy records and when hip hop arrived, he felt that he belonged. The 90s arrived and Joseph travelled down to London to work with the Young Disciples, and in '94, along with Calvin Nuttal, Malik became part of MF Outa ‘National, transforming into Blacka-nized. Their 1st ever release, ‘Miles Out Of Time (Astrocentric Mix 'n' Beats)’ wason the Mo’ Wax compilation, ‘Headz. In the same year, Joseph co-founded his Café Graffiti club night “Lizard Lounge”, winning ‘Club of the Year’ 2 of the 3 years + bringing over US performers like Gil Scott Heron, Rueben Wilson + the Last Poets. The Lizard Lounge finally closed its doors in 2000 and Joseph recorded as a solo artist on Compost Records. Together with co-producer, David Donnelly, Joseph delivered 'Diverse Part 1' in 2002, the 1st LP in the ‘Diverse’ trilogy which would define his music career over the next 3 decades. Joseph’s next LP, ‘Diverse Part 2’ released in 2018 and in 2022, he released the final ‘Diverse' LP - 'Part 3'. In the same year Joseph received the ‘One to Watch’ Boisdale award from Jools Holland and Gilles Peterson invited him to perform in the Brownswood Basement Sessions on his Worldwide FM Show. 2023 is already earmarked for the summer release of his ‘Proxima Ebony’ LP.
