Originally hailing from central New Jersey, Ali Berger has been quietly percolating in various corners of the US dance music scene since 2010. While attending university in Boston he became a well-known local producer, DJ, and live act, regularly opening for artists like Jimmy Edgar, Simian Mobile Disco and DJ Pierre, and sharing the decks with fellow Bostonians John Barera and Will Martin. In late 2015 Ali moved to Detroit, and shortly after that released his first solo 12” on Martin’s label Firm Tracks. The Phone Calls EP featured two distorted drum machine improvisations and two bright, synth-heavy techno trips—a duality that echoes through Ali’s already-extensive discography (six albums, ten EPs and counting). Since the move to Detroit Ali has found new friends, supporters and collaborators. He and Pittsburgh’s Davis Galvin formed Hits Only to make a hotly-tipped appearance on Tony Fairchild’s Is/Was label, and Ali has played at essential Midwest parties In Training and Hot Mass. In late 2018 his second solo 12” (The Protector) appeared on Detroit label Clave House, followed by Keys The Door EP1 & 2 on FatCat Records sublabel FCR. With frequent DJ support from heavy hitters like Carlos Souffront, Mike Servito, Ciel, and the Honey Soundsystem and Honcho crews, and two more EPs forthcoming in 2019, if you haven’t danced to an Ali Berger track yet you probably will soon...
